| First day Just started my new job with AT&T supporting U-Verse I'm finally not a Tier I minion taking random bs calls! The only phone support I'll be doing is internal with Tier II's and field tech types. So pretty soon I'll be an expert on the service and systems inside and out.

| what I knew and what I'm learning U-Verse is basically AT&T's fiber optic based services for internet, TV, and phone like Verizon's FiOS. If you don't know what that means, fiber optic lines are being used for most of the connection from the provider up to homes and businesses (FTTN). The fiber optic lines are run as close as possible and copper is used for the shorter end. Some connections even go all the way to the site (FTTP) The DISH service is completely separate from U-verse although it is possible to get DISH TV and the phone and internet via U-verse. The phone service through U-verse is VoIP not analog, eve I didn't know about that. There are 3 commercial level internet speeds (the tip top speed is rarely available) through U-verse packages that go along with 5 TV levels. The TV and phone services are also over the fiber and IP based. If you guys want more of the detail on how U-verse got started and where its going check out the small wiki page here: U-verse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia or... just try to get it yourself. Like I posted months ago, I still~ can't get U-verse in my apartment yet so I'll have to keep playing with the demo setup on my breaks ![]()

| I use Shaw atm for phone, t.v. and internet here in B.C. No satelite channels, but 240 some odd channels, 28 HD channels. Not all feeds come in HD but supposedly there is a swap to HD coming up for all networks. The part about the compresion your using and sending it all over the internet is interesting. Will bring cost down once the lines are laid. You going to offer this to canada or are their any competitors who are up here?

| We've got AT&T U-Verse up here in Milwaukee, but they don't have the fiber-optic Internet, so it's just shitty DSL. We use Time Warner Cable for digital phone service, digital cable with DVR, and 15mbps RoadRunner Internet. |

| Thanks guys, I'll try to answer any questions I have found out as I get deeper into the training. Oxll - I think Verizon may have an advantage towards moving into Canada and getting the service closer than AT&T simply because they have had more time running the show for these services. But they both have their limitations. So for you I've heard Bruce Telecom, Bell, & Rogers *may* up their efforts to hook you guys up faster than Verizon or AT&T can get their gears going. You mind telling us what you do with them? I mean that's just too cool to keep to yourself. You can make another thread and share your first weeks experience of the company. plz ![]()
